Peter McPhee recently retired as Provost of the University of Melbourne, with particular responsibilities for the quality of teaching and learning and the campus experience.
He has published widely on the history of France during the tumultuous years of the French Revolution. His publications include, A Social History of France 1789-1914 (London, 2003) Revolution and Environment in Southern France 1780-1830 (Oxford, 1999); and The French Revolution 1789-1799 (Oxford 2002). His most recent book is Living the French Revolution 1789-1799 (London, 2005).
Professor McPhee is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
Peter has lectured to ADFAS societies over many years.
