Japan has an extraordinary appreciation for art drawing some of the world’s highest visitor numbers to its museums and galleries. With government funding continually dropping, private collections and corporate art museums become ever more important supporters of Japanese art and culture.  Hear the stories of some of those providing that support.
From an extraordinary passion project at the Itchiku Kubota Kimono Museum, to the refined tastes of gambling tycoon Kazuo Okada and the innovation and renewal of Naoshima’s Benesse Art Site, this presentation explores various manifestations of private art patronage in today’s Japan.
Kathleen Olive
Kathleen is one of Australia’s best-known cultural tour leaders with over fifteen years’ experience leading tours to Western Europe, North America, Australasia and Japan. She holds a PhD in Italian Studies from the University of Sydney and is a regular presenter on the history, art and culture of Italy and Japan.
